God is calling us back to worship. He is actually seeking for worshippers. And He does not mince words about this. The subject of worship topping the ten commandment is not a coincidence. Why is God so particular about worship? What’s in it that could make God desire it so much? Down the line, we will see that it is not only God who want our worship. So, let’s sort out the why.
But if your heart turn away, so that you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish, and that you shall not prolong your days on the land, where you pass over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live: That you may love the LORD your God, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may hold to him: for he is your life, and the length of your days: that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
Worship is our life! It is the very essence of our being. We are not human without worship. This is so engrained in our being that everyone does it either consciously or otherwise. All the instabilities we have in the world today are caused by humans turning away from the worship of God Almighty. Several things have become the objects of our worship. Consider the wordings of this scripture:
Give to the LORD the glory due to his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.
The world will be stable if the human inhabitants thereof make worship of God a priority. We will not however know if we are worshipping something different from God if we don’t know what worship is. A quick recap here before venturing into what worship is. The why of worship is, it is our life. Outside worship, we are dead. This could be the reason why the world is full of walking corpses.
In part 2, we will dig into what worship probably mean. Till then, can you comment on what you think worship is? It will be greatly appreciated!
